This initiative, The SACEEC Skills Development Programme (SSDP) was launched on the 21 June 2017 at a local Technical High School on the East Rand of Johannesburg. The SSDP, which has the objective of developing technical skills for the industry has partnered with the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA), and is committed to drive the development of relevant artisan and technical skills in line with industry requirements. The Champion of this project Mr Ross hunter from RGR Technologies and a Director of SACEEC says “I am passionate about this project as my company needs mater artisans to take us to the next level of competitive business”
The initiative targets four technical High Schools in Ekurhuleni which will be the feeders into a School of Excellence. The high school programme is referred to the SACEEC Schools Programme or SSP for short. This well run programme managed by D3 Discover Develop Deploy Services has been running smoothly at Fumana Comprehensive High School in Katlehong since 2014 and will now roll out at the additional three schools. The programme includes continued interventions such as career days, D3 and industry mentoring, company site visits and Soft Skill D3 Camps to the lucky learners of these schools.
The SACEEC School of Excellence will target industry specific skills required such as Tooling and Machining, Industry Maintenance, Boilermakers and Welders, as well as Technical Sales Staff, which are all required by the manufacturing sector. The modular curriculum is gearing towards Industry relevance, which is internationally recognised and accredited, allowing our youth to grow and achieve on an international level. Learners are able to qualify as artisans or work their way up to a master artisan. Mr Eric Bruggeman, CEO of SACEEC, statement in the opening of the launch summarises the project that industry is crying for perfectly. “Teach a man how to fish and he will never go hungry again. We are here to provide an education to our youth, to empower them for their future growth and success”
Should your company be in the manufacturing sector and want to get involved with this great project, that will allow Skills Development and Socio-Economic Development points for your BBBEE scorecard this is a programme we highly recommend. You not only get to maximise your BBBEE scorecard but also have access to mechanical artisans who will be worth their salt in the manufacturing sector.
