The Saiccor Mill can be found 50km south of the port of Durban in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The mill specialises in production of Sappi dissolving pulp, which has a wide variety of uses including textiles, industrial and pharmaceutical applications. Together with the Sappi Ngodwana Mill, the company is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of dissolving pulp (https://www.sappi.com/saiccor-mill).
The mill has the capacity to produce approximately 890 000 tons of elemental chlorine free (ECF) dissolving pulp (DP) per annum, mostly for the export market. This pulp is sustainably produced and the plant supplies jobs for a large number of people in the area, supporting the local economy.
Unlike many synthetic raw materials, the product supplied by Sappi Dissolving Pulp is produced from a natural and renewable resource. The timber consumption of Saiccor Mill and Ngodwana Mills is comprised primarily of eucalyptus hardwoods. These fast-growing trees are grown in relatively close proximity to the mills, which contribute to the business’ position as a competitive producer of dissolving pulp.
