Middelburg is one of South Africa’s important industrial hubs in the Mpumalanga province’s cultural heartland – known for its extensive steel and coal mining activities.
Seriti Resources operates three large scale opencast and underground mines in the area, namely Khutala, Klipspruit and Middelburg Mining Service (MMS). The company is 91% black-owned and supports environmental and community development in the region. The company is also Eskom’s largest coal provider – supplying roughly 32% annually.
Middelburg Mine Services (MMS) – formerly the Wolwekrans and Ifalethu Mines – comprises two major open-cast mining operations: Middelburg North and Middelburg South. This is a large-scale drag-line complex, supplemented by truck-and-shovel operations. Coal produced here is destined for the export market (https://seritiza.com/business/seriti-power/mms/).
